A strange little side quest
The next time Survival Sandbox for 99 Nights asks for one more try, remember that game ideas rarely appear from nowhere. Games resembling checkers were being played thousands of years ago; evidence of related games reaches back to around 1600 BC. The surprising part is how quickly the next milestone followed. SimCity grew out of Will Wright's enjoyment of the map editor he had built for an earlier game; the act of shaping a city became the game itself. That history is one reason familiar mechanics can still feel new when they are recombined well.
