A strange little side quest
There is a neat bit of history hiding behind the kind of play you find in Russian Checkers: Classic Rules. The first crossword puzzle book appeared in 1924 in a cautious initial printing of 3,600 copies, complete with a free pencil. It also connects to a different milestone: Modern chess traces back to the Indian game chaturanga, recorded around the sixth century and built around pieces representing parts of an army. That is the kind of background detail that makes another attempt at Russian Checkers: Classic Rules feel a bit more connected to the history of play.
