A strange little side quest
The fun part of looking behind Party Down is seeing how many older ideas are still alive in modern play. SimCity grew out of Will Wright's enjoyment of the map editor he had built for an earlier game; the act of shaping a city became the game itself. Another piece of context lands nicely beside it: Atari's Gran Trak 10 from 1974 is recognized as the first arcade racing video game. That is the kind of background detail that makes another attempt at Party Down feel a bit more connected to the history of play.
