A strange little side quest
Even a quick game like Meme War sits on top of decades — and sometimes centuries — of ideas. Chess changed dramatically in Europe during the 15th and 16th centuries when the queen became the board's most powerful piece. The surprising part is how quickly the next milestone followed. In 1958, Tennis for Two used an analog computer and an oscilloscope to turn simple physics into a playable tennis-like demonstration. The screen is modern; the urge to test skill, pattern and timing definitely is not.
