A strange little side quest

Even a quick game like Tower Shooter sits on top of decades — and sometimes centuries — of ideas. Chess changed dramatically in Europe during the 15th and 16th centuries when the queen became the board's most powerful piece. Another piece of context lands nicely beside it: Atari's Gran Trak 10 from 1974 is recognized as the first arcade racing video game. That gives Tower Shooter a little more company than it first appears to have.
