A strange little side quest
Hidden Kitchen has plenty of company in a long tradition of players chasing timing, patterns and better decisions. Cone-shaped wafers with cream were described in print before 1900, but the ice-cream cone became a major American fairground hit at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair. The same trail leads to another fact: The first crossword puzzle book appeared in 1924 in a cautious initial printing of 3,600 copies, complete with a free pencil. It is a good reminder that simple game mechanics can carry a surprising amount of history.
