A strange little side quest
The rules may be simple on screen, but the backstory around Piece of Cake is anything but tiny. Electric refrigeration reached the American mass market in the late 1920s, changing how households stored food and even how desserts such as ice cream could be made at home. There is another connection worth keeping in the same mental pocket: Arthur Wynne published a diamond-shaped 'Word-Cross' in the New York World on December 21, 1913; the name later shifted to 'Cross-Word' and then 'crossword'. That long chain of experiments is part of why food history still feels fresh when a game finds the right twist.
