A strange little side quest
The fun part of looking behind Basketball Run Shots is seeing how many older ideas are still alive in modern play. Basketball was invented by James Naismith in 1891 at the International YMCA Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts. Another piece of context lands nicely beside it: Archery was already on the Olympic programme in 1900, boxing joined the modern Games in 1904, and basketball became a medal sport in 1936. The details change, but the appeal of learning a system and trying again is remarkably persistent.
