A strange little side quest
A little context makes Army Recoup: Island more fun to place on the gaming map. Games resembling checkers were being played thousands of years ago; evidence of related games reaches back to around 1600 BC. A second detail makes the picture even better: Doom changed game design and distribution in 1993 by separating its engine from content and spreading widely through shareware. The screen is modern; the urge to test skill, pattern and timing definitely is not.
