A quick detour while Half Life waits for your next move: Gun Fight reached arcades in 1975 and became the first arcade video game to use a microprocessor. The broader history adds one more wrinkle. Street Fighter II, released in 1991, turned head-to-head arcade fighting into a worldwide phenomenon and helped define the modern fighting-game genre. That gives Half Life a little more company than it first appears to have.
