A strange little side quest
Put Ant War next to the history of strategy games and a few unexpected connections appear. Games resembling checkers were being played thousands of years ago; evidence of related games reaches back to around 1600 BC. It also connects to a different milestone: SimCity grew out of Will Wright's enjoyment of the map editor he had built for an earlier game; the act of shaping a city became the game itself. So a round of Ant War is not just a quick distraction; it is a tiny stop on a much longer strategy games timeline.
