A strange little side quest
The rules may be simple on screen, but the backstory around Zombie Defence Team is anything but tiny. Modern chess traces back to the Indian game chaturanga, recorded around the sixth century and built around pieces representing parts of an army. That old idea kept changing rather than disappearing. Doom changed game design and distribution in 1993 by separating its engine from content and spreading widely through shareware. The screen is modern; the urge to test skill, pattern and timing definitely is not.
