A strange little side quest
Wood Turning may feel immediate, but the ideas around role-playing games have been evolving for a very long time. By 1987, fantasy role-playing had become a major computer-game direction, with Zelda, licensed Dungeons & Dragons games and other story-led adventures expanding the form. Another piece of context lands nicely beside it: Women competed in Olympic archery as early as 1904, making it one of the early Olympic sports to include women. That is the kind of background detail that makes another attempt at Wood Turning feel a bit more connected to the history of play.
