A strange little side quest
Even a quick game like Wedding Shoppe sits on top of decades — and sometimes centuries — of ideas. SimCity grew out of Will Wright's enjoyment of the map editor he had built for an earlier game; the act of shaping a city became the game itself. The surprising part is how quickly the next milestone followed. By the 1890s, department stores and mail-order catalogs were selling mass-produced ready-to-wear clothes in standardized styles and price ranges. So a round of Wedding Shoppe is not just a quick distraction; it is a tiny stop on a much longer simulation games timeline.
