A strange little side quest
Even a quick game like The Forsaken Lab 3D sits on top of decades — and sometimes centuries — of ideas. Doom changed game design and distribution in 1993 by separating its engine from content and spreading widely through shareware. The broader history adds one more wrinkle. Nintendo's Donkey Kong arrived in 1981 and introduced the character first known as Jumpman, who later became Mario. That history is one reason familiar mechanics can still feel new when they are recombined well.
