A strange little side quest
There is a neat bit of history hiding behind the kind of play you find in Firing Range. A major archery competition held at Finsbury in England in 1583 drew about 3,000 participants. That is only half the story. Doom changed game design and distribution in 1993 by separating its engine from content and spreading widely through shareware. That gives Firing Range a little more company than it first appears to have.
