A strange little side quest
Put Terra Force next to the history of action games and a few unexpected connections appear. Doom changed game design and distribution in 1993 by separating its engine from content and spreading widely through shareware. A second detail makes the picture even better: Street Fighter II, released in 1991, turned head-to-head arcade fighting into a worldwide phenomenon and helped define the modern fighting-game genre. That long chain of experiments is part of why action games still feels fresh when a game finds the right twist.
