A strange little side quest
Between one round of Splitter Knight and the next, this is worth knowing: Early computer role-playing games helped turn rules, inventories, exploration and character progression into systems that could support long-form digital adventures. The broader history adds one more wrinkle. Boxing was part of the ancient Olympic Games by 688 BC, long before gloves, weight classes, or timed rounds existed in anything like their modern form. The screen is modern; the urge to test skill, pattern and timing definitely is not.
