The rules may be simple on screen, but the backstory around Sepbox V4: Aftermath is anything but tiny. The Oregon Trail eventually appeared across generations of computer hardware and sold tens of millions of copies, making it one of the most enduring educational games. It also connects to a different milestone: Computer Space reached arcades in 1971 and became one of the earliest commercial electronic arcade games, even though its controls proved demanding for many players. That long chain of experiments is part of why learning games still feels fresh when a game finds the right twist.
