A strange little side quest
Royal Burst has plenty of company in a long tradition of players chasing timing, patterns and better decisions. Alexey Pajitnov created Tetris in 1984 after drawing inspiration from pentomino puzzles, then simplified the idea around shapes made from four squares. It also connects to a different milestone: The word 'checkmate' is linked to the Persian expression 'shah mat', used when the king was trapped. That history is one reason familiar mechanics can still feel new when they are recombined well.
