A strange little side quest
Yatzee may feel immediate, but the ideas around strategy games have been evolving for a very long time. Chess changed dramatically in Europe during the 15th and 16th centuries when the queen became the board's most powerful piece. Another piece of context lands nicely beside it: In 1958, Tennis for Two used an analog computer and an oscilloscope to turn simple physics into a playable tennis-like demonstration. It is a good reminder that simple game mechanics can carry a surprising amount of history.
