A strange little side quest
The rules may be simple on screen, but the backstory around Dead Walker: Zombie Shooter is anything but tiny. Doom changed game design and distribution in 1993 by separating its engine from content and spreading widely through shareware. Another piece of context lands nicely beside it: Modern chess traces back to the Indian game chaturanga, recorded around the sixth century and built around pieces representing parts of an army. That long chain of experiments is part of why action games still feels fresh when a game finds the right twist.
