A strange little side quest
The rules may be simple on screen, but the backstory around Rogue Grimoire: The Skeleton Key is anything but tiny. Games resembling checkers were being played thousands of years ago; evidence of related games reaches back to around 1600 BC. And then there is this: By 1987, fantasy role-playing had become a major computer-game direction, with Zelda, licensed Dungeons & Dragons games and other story-led adventures expanding the form. It is a good reminder that simple game mechanics can carry a surprising amount of history.
