Ragdoll Racing: Extreme Downhill may feel immediate, but the ideas around racing have been evolving for a very long time. A top Formula 1 tyre stop can happen in under two seconds; McLaren set a 1.80-second pit-stop record. Another piece of context lands nicely beside it: Archery first appeared at the Olympic Games in 1900 and returned permanently to the programme in 1972 after a long absence. That history is one reason familiar mechanics can still feel new when they are recombined well.
