A strange little side quest
One reason role-playing games keeps producing good game ideas around Last Knight: King's Throne is that its history is full of strange turns. By 1987, fantasy role-playing had become a major computer-game direction, with Zelda, licensed Dungeons & Dragons games and other story-led adventures expanding the form. And the history keeps stacking up: Games resembling checkers were being played thousands of years ago; evidence of related games reaches back to around 1600 BC. That long chain of experiments is part of why role-playing games still feels fresh when a game finds the right twist.
