A strange little side quest
The rules may be simple on screen, but the backstory around Territory War is anything but tiny. The word 'checkmate' is linked to the Persian expression 'shah mat', used when the king was trapped. It also connects to a different milestone: Computer Space reached arcades in 1971 and became one of the earliest commercial electronic arcade games, even though its controls proved demanding for many players. That gives Territory War a little more company than it first appears to have.
