A strange little side quest
Zoom out from Human Darts for a moment and the timeline gets surprisingly deep. A major archery competition held at Finsbury in England in 1583 drew about 3,000 participants. The timeline takes another interesting turn: Archery was already on the Olympic programme in 1900, boxing joined the modern Games in 1904, and basketball became a medal sport in 1936. That gives Human Darts a little more company than it first appears to have.
