A strange little side quest
The mechanics around Gumball: Vote for Gumball have roots that stretch far beyond modern browsers. By 1987, fantasy role-playing had become a major computer-game direction, with Zelda, licensed Dungeons & Dragons games and other story-led adventures expanding the form. And then there is this: In 1958, Tennis for Two used an analog computer and an oscilloscope to turn simple physics into a playable tennis-like demonstration. That long chain of experiments is part of why role-playing games still feels fresh when a game finds the right twist.
