A strange little side quest
Zoom out from Granny: Playroom of Fear for a moment and the timeline gets surprisingly deep. Alexey Pajitnov created Tetris in 1984 after drawing inspiration from pentomino puzzles, then simplified the idea around shapes made from four squares. The timeline takes another interesting turn: By 1987, fantasy role-playing had become a major computer-game direction, with Zelda, licensed Dungeons & Dragons games and other story-led adventures expanding the form. The screen is modern; the urge to test skill, pattern and timing definitely is not.
