A strange little side quest
Football Heads: France 2019/20 (Ligue 1) has plenty of company in a long tradition of players chasing timing, patterns and better decisions. The first penalty shoot-out in World Cup history came in the 1982 semi-final between West Germany and France. The timeline takes another interesting turn: Archery was already on the Olympic programme in 1900, boxing joined the modern Games in 1904, and basketball became a medal sport in 1936. The screen is modern; the urge to test skill, pattern and timing definitely is not.
