A strange little side quest
There is a neat bit of history hiding behind the kind of play you find in Flipper Basketball. Basketball was invented by James Naismith in 1891 at the International YMCA Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts. And the history keeps stacking up: Basketball became an Olympic medal sport in 1936, while women’s basketball joined the Olympic programme in 1976. That history is one reason familiar mechanics can still feel new when they are recombined well.
