Before the next round of Extermination io, here is a piece of the bigger picture. Doom changed game design and distribution in 1993 by separating its engine from content and spreading widely through shareware. A second detail makes the picture even better: Pong was field-tested in California bars in 1972 and helped launch the modern arcade-game era.
