A strange little side quest
There is a neat bit of history hiding behind the kind of play you find in DD Happy Glass. The first crossword puzzle book appeared in 1924 in a cautious initial printing of 3,600 copies, complete with a free pencil. The same trail leads to another fact: Archery first appeared at the Olympic Games in 1900 and returned permanently to the programme in 1972 after a long absence. That history is one reason familiar mechanics can still feel new when they are recombined well.
