A strange little side quest
Coronavirus Pandemic belongs to a much longer story of play than a browser tab might suggest. Games resembling checkers were being played thousands of years ago; evidence of related games reaches back to around 1600 BC. The broader history adds one more wrinkle. Computer Space reached arcades in 1971 and became one of the earliest commercial electronic arcade games, even though its controls proved demanding for many players. That long chain of experiments is part of why strategy games still feels fresh when a game finds the right twist.
