A strange little side quest
Doctor Zombi may feel immediate, but the ideas around strategy games have been evolving for a very long time. Games resembling checkers were being played thousands of years ago; evidence of related games reaches back to around 1600 BC. There is another connection worth keeping in the same mental pocket: In 1958, Tennis for Two used an analog computer and an oscilloscope to turn simple physics into a playable tennis-like demonstration. So a round of Doctor Zombi is not just a quick distraction; it is a tiny stop on a much longer strategy games timeline.
