A strange little side quest
Cooking Madness belongs to a much longer story of play than a browser tab might suggest. Nancy Johnson patented a hand-cranked ice-cream freezer in 1843 that used an inner churning chamber surrounded by ice. And the history keeps stacking up: SimCity grew out of Will Wright's enjoyment of the map editor he had built for an earlier game; the act of shaping a city became the game itself. That history is one reason familiar mechanics can still feel new when they are recombined well.
