A strange little side quest
There is a neat bit of history hiding behind the kind of play you find in Gun Baron. Chess changed dramatically in Europe during the 15th and 16th centuries when the queen became the board's most powerful piece. There is another connection worth keeping in the same mental pocket: SimCity grew out of Will Wright's enjoyment of the map editor he had built for an earlier game; the act of shaping a city became the game itself. The screen is modern; the urge to test skill, pattern and timing definitely is not.
