A strange little side quest
The rules may be simple on screen, but the backstory around Bumbling Builders is anything but tiny. Arthur Wynne published a diamond-shaped 'Word-Cross' in the New York World on December 21, 1913; the name later shifted to 'Cross-Word' and then 'crossword'. It also connects to a different milestone: Modern chess traces back to the Indian game chaturanga, recorded around the sixth century and built around pieces representing parts of an army. That history is one reason familiar mechanics can still feel new when they are recombined well.
