A strange little side quest
Zoom out from Bubble Shot for a moment and the timeline gets surprisingly deep. Modern chess traces back to the Indian game chaturanga, recorded around the sixth century and built around pieces representing parts of an army. That old idea kept changing rather than disappearing. Pac-Man went on sale in 1980, and its creator Toru Iwatani famously linked the character's shape to a pizza with a slice missing. The screen is modern; the urge to test skill, pattern and timing definitely is not.
