A strange little side quest
Bejeweled HD belongs to a much longer story of play than a browser tab might suggest. Arthur Wynne published a diamond-shaped 'Word-Cross' in the New York World on December 21, 1913; the name later shifted to 'Cross-Word' and then 'crossword'. The surprising part is how quickly the next milestone followed. Space Invaders, released in 1978, helped push video games into mainstream popular culture. That long chain of experiments is part of why puzzles still feels fresh when a game finds the right twist.
