A strange little side quest
The mechanics around Basket Balls have roots that stretch far beyond modern browsers. The earliest basketball games used peach baskets, and Naismith wrote 13 original rules for the new indoor sport. The broader history adds one more wrinkle. Archery was already on the Olympic programme in 1900, boxing joined the modern Games in 1904, and basketball became a medal sport in 1936. That long chain of experiments is part of why basketball still feels fresh when a game finds the right twist.
