Which is Different Cartoons may feel immediate, but the ideas around arcade history have been evolving for a very long time. Space Invaders, released in 1978, helped push video games into mainstream popular culture. It also connects to a different milestone: Spacewar! appeared on MIT's PDP-1 in 1962 and became one of the earliest influential computer games shared among programmers.
