A strange little side quest
The rules may be simple on screen, but the backstory around Weird Pong is anything but tiny. Basketball became an Olympic medal sport in 1936, while women’s basketball joined the Olympic programme in 1976. That old idea kept changing rather than disappearing. In 1958, Tennis for Two used an analog computer and an oscilloscope to turn simple physics into a playable tennis-like demonstration. The screen is modern; the urge to test skill, pattern and timing definitely is not.
