A strange little side quest
Before the next round of Three Cups, here is a piece of the bigger picture. The first crossword puzzle book appeared in 1924 in a cautious initial printing of 3,600 copies, complete with a free pencil. That is only half the story. A major archery competition held at Finsbury in England in 1583 drew about 3,000 participants. So a round of Three Cups is not just a quick distraction; it is a tiny stop on a much longer puzzles timeline.
