A strange little side quest
The Golden Ball belongs to a much longer story of play than a browser tab might suggest. Donkey Kong arrived in 1981 with a character called Jumpman, who would later become one of gaming's most recognizable figures: Mario. The surprising part is how quickly the next milestone followed. Archery first appeared at the Olympic Games in 1900 and returned permanently to the programme in 1972 after a long absence. That is the kind of background detail that makes another attempt at The Golden Ball feel a bit more connected to the history of play.
