A strange little side quest
Even a quick game like Sue’s Jewelry Shop sits on top of decades — and sometimes centuries — of ideas. SimCity grew out of Will Wright's enjoyment of the map editor he had built for an earlier game; the act of shaping a city became the game itself. There is another connection worth keeping in the same mental pocket: In 18th-century America, upper-class men as well as women wore make-up, a reminder that beauty customs have never been as fixed as they can seem. Not bad for a few facts hiding behind a Play button.
