A strange little side quest
Before the next round of StrikeForce Kitty, here is a piece of the bigger picture. Chess changed dramatically in Europe during the 15th and 16th centuries when the queen became the board's most powerful piece. The same trail leads to another fact: By 1987, fantasy role-playing had become a major computer-game direction, with Zelda, licensed Dungeons & Dragons games and other story-led adventures expanding the form. That history is one reason familiar mechanics can still feel new when they are recombined well.
