A strange little side quest

State of Play - Baseball may feel immediate, but the ideas around sports history have been evolving for a very long time. Archery was already on the Olympic programme in 1900, boxing joined the modern Games in 1904, and basketball became a medal sport in 1936. The same trail leads to another fact: Nintendo's Donkey Kong arrived in 1981 and introduced the character first known as Jumpman, who later became Mario.
