A strange little side quest
The next time World Basketball Championship asks for one more try, remember that game ideas rarely appear from nowhere. The earliest basketball games used peach baskets, and Naismith wrote 13 original rules for the new indoor sport. It also connects to a different milestone: Archery was already on the Olympic programme in 1900, boxing joined the modern Games in 1904, and basketball became a medal sport in 1936. That history is one reason familiar mechanics can still feel new when they are recombined well.
