A strange little side quest
Sprunki Retrowave may feel immediate, but the ideas around arcade history have been evolving for a very long time. Street Fighter II, released in 1991, turned head-to-head arcade fighting into a worldwide phenomenon and helped define the modern fighting-game genre. There is another connection worth keeping in the same mental pocket: Pong was field-tested in California bars in 1972 and helped launch the modern arcade-game era. That history is one reason familiar mechanics can still feel new when they are recombined well.
